Backpack Mack is back! Amanda and I are moving to London! Well, we *moved* to London. It's day 3 now. So how did this all start? A long time ago in a country far, far away...
Amanda and I started dating 3 years ago. A lot's happened in those years. We met at Ernst & Young; it's now called EY. She still works at the firm; I left after 2 years and began working at my family's business in San Francisco. We both lived in Campbell; I moved to San Jose, then San Francisco. Then I moved again within The City from Russian Hill to North Beach. The Warriors win the NBA Championship. The Giants win 2 World Series. The Sharks make the Stanley Cup Finals. The 49ers stop making the playoffs. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Fast-forward to Spring of 2016. Amanda's been nominated for a rotation in the EY's Global Exchange Program ("GEP"). She applies for GEP in London. I'm an EU citizen. The UK votes to leave the EU and block immigration; Brexit. Amanda gets accepted for two years in London; Brentrance. The next weekend we take a trip to Mexico - her birthday present and our first time out of the country together. I get food poisoning. We come back from Mexico and find out she starts work on September 5th.
Everything after that is a blur.
We have a graduation party for my sister who just graduated college at my parent's house. Amanda's mom meets my gigantic family. Amanda moves out of her apartment and moves in with me in San Francisco. We fly to Vegas for her mom's birthday, then direct to New York for a crash course in culture. I start training my sister who will be replacing me at work. I pay off my car loan. A few weeks to get our affairs in order. I sell my car. Amanda gets her visa. We have a small going away party. Amanda's sister meets my family. I sell everything else I own. We start packing. We buy our plane tickets. Amanda goes to Dallas. We're assigned a flat. I pack some more. I quit my job. Amanda's back from Dallas. We finish packing. We're on a plane to London with 7 checked bags and 4 carry-ons. Tomorrow's my birthday.
Factory reset at 25. There was evening and there was morning, the first day.
